A day in the life of a yoga teacher in London – This is my regular routine… it’s not always easy or glamorous, but it keeps me grounded!
I get asked this question ALL the time:
Q: “What is your regular day really like?”
I think this is very different for each person – depending on what hours they work, whether they are on a fixed contract or completely freelance etc.
Over the last few years, I seem to have naturally developed the same daily routine each day of the week… and it doesn’t stop during the weekend. As you know, yogis and complementary therapists who make a living out of this work, have clients/classes at really odd hours sometimes!
A random weekday for me:
Above was a quiet day in London – I wanted to show you around town during Christmas! Chedk out some places I love to visit when I have free time too.
Below is my usual London city yogi routine as a freelance teacher and holistic therapist working in the city 🙂
🌟 5.30am Wake up and do personal Sadhana…
This time is dedicated to my own personal yoga practise.
This wasn’t always the case but I’ve become very good at waking at this time now. Personal Sadhana is like the energy timer to the day… it just sets off the whole day in a positive way, which usually has a knock-on effect with everything.
This space includes meditation, kriya and setting intentions. I also like to use visualisation on what I would like to inviter into my life. Journal work can also be done at this time.
I never used to class my Self as a morning person but in these magical morning moments, before the husstle of the day begins, there is such clarity. An intensely open space to see what is going on within…
I try to make the most of this space.
After, I will either make a cup of chai tea and lie in bed awake or get going on to the next stage…
🌟 8-9am A hearty breakfast…
For me, a good breakfast makes all the difference between a good or bad day… I love to take time to eat a full breakfast… mainly protein based.
A typical breakfast is something like a vegan tofu scrambled “egg”, fresh green juice/smoothie and black eyed beans with avocado slices on the side.
🌟 9am On the computer until lunch time…
Time to boot up the computer and catch up on the paperwork!
A lot of my day is on the computer – this may surprise many but it is true! As many freelancers from all fields will tell you, paperwork is never too far.
I work solo – so I don’t have anyone else helping me to do general marketing, bookings, invoices/receipts etc.I have to keep on top of this or it piles up.
I use this time to catch up on emails, make appointments for clients, research new venues/visits, social media posts, marketing etc. I try to get the bulk of my important paperwork done from the start.
🌟 12-1pm Lunch…
I will switch off the computer and my phone and just be present with my lunch. After eating, I do follow some TV shows, so I might sneak a soap opera or TV show in to catch up while eating.
🌟 1pm Get ready for afternoon sessions or work back on the computer…
I usually have clients from the afternoon onwards… In this case, I get ready, travel and make my way to the therapy room or class. It usually takes 30-40 minutes to my therapy space.
Commuting time is a good time to catch up on other things too! London and city commuting in general, can be a whole topic but I’ve learned to use this space to benefit me.
On the days I don’t have anything booked over the afternoon period, I use this space for learning and creating… so this would be a time to go through my yoga notes, create workshops/classes, write blog posts, finish off coursework if I am doing a course, etc. I also like to use this space to research on news regarding science and metaphysics, a growing field!
🌟 4.30pm Head off to see evening clients or teach classes…
Time to connect with the hard working people of London town!
Almost every evening, I have my regular clients or classes… If I am not already in my therapy space or the right location, I head off there.
The whole evening is dedicated to seeing clients/students and sharing – I work in the city so most of them are coming straight from work and to a session/class – It’s a good time for making new bookings!
🌟 8.30 or 9pm Head back home…
I usually see my last client/class by 9pm. After, I spend 10-15 minutes to just ground my energy before locking up and commuting back home.
🌟 10pm Eat dinner, watch TV and chill out before bed…
Get home, kick off my shoes, light stretches and a light dinner. Do a final meditation and go to sleep.
The next question that usually follows is:
Q: “Can you see your Self doing anything else for a living?”
My Honest A: “No, because I honestly wouldn’t know how to do anything else! I wouldn’t want to either!”
It does take time to build clients and classes, it’s not always easy and there are many tips I wish I knew before starting this way of working – BUT (a good but!) for me, it’s worth every step to continue this path 🙂
